Can you believe how fast this year has gone by? They all seem to move faster with each passing year.

How did you do this year on your weight loss goal? Did you lose the few pounds you said you were going to lose at the beginning of 2007? What happened? How far did you make it into the year before you stopped working out and eating healthier? How many times did you make it to the gym before you stopped going?

Losing weight is not easy. If it was, there would be no obesity epidemic in America. It’s the same thing with getting rich. If making money was easy, we would all be doing it and not having to work so hard. The ads on TV or online want us to believe that losing fat is easy - take one pill a day and watch the pounds melt away. Sound familiar? I see the same ads all the time.

But, you can lose weight. You can lose 10 pounds in a year - with a little bit of effort. It does not take much. If you set a goal of losing ten pounds in a year - that’s less than 1 pound a month. To achieve that, all you need to do is eat 3500 less per month - that’s 117 calories a day. You would be surprised at how little that is. You do not have to give up all your favorite foods to cut out 100 calories a day from your diet.

Or, you can just start walking or exercising to burn those extra 100 calories. You can eat all the same, you do not have to change your diet, all you have to do is add exercise to your day and in one year’s time, 10 pounds will be gone.

How sexier will you look 10 pounds lighter? I like people checking me out and asking if I’ve lost weight. It makes me feel good and puts a smile on my face. I still need to lose a few more pounds but I’m happy with the pounds I’ve lost.

You can feel better about yourself by making a small modification to your life - eat 100 less calories a day or burn an extra 100 calories a day by exercising and you will lose 10 pounds in 2008 guaranteed.

Can you believe a new year is right around the corner? Time flies much too fast. Now is the time to start planning your New Year’s resolutions that you’ll keep for just a few weeks until you lose your motivation. :o)

We’re all guilty of it all the time. Until we make something a habit, losing 10 pounds or more is going to be on each upcoming year’s resolution list.

Here’s an article that can help you develop some healthy habits:

Are you looking to improve your life? Get healthier? Feel better? Here are ten great healthy habits to adopt this year for a happier, healthier, and potentially longer life.

1. Reduce stress. Stress affects our health in a very negative way. It affects our immune system. It affects our ability to sleep and to digest our food properly. If you’re looking for one thing you can do better for yourself and your health this year, it would be to find methods of reducing stress.

2. Drink more water. Not just because water is good for you but because when you drink more water you stop drinking soda or other sugary drinks. Diet soda isn’t much better because it’s full of artificial sweeteners and chemicals

3. Walk/exercise. Adding exercise to your day adds years to your life. You don’t have to run a marathon or become iron man triathletes, walking for 30 minutes a day is an excellent start. Plus, you’ll just feel better.

4. Get your vitamins. A well balanced diet is excellent; however a multi vitamin is an excellent tool for a little extra insurance. Plus, it’s an easy thing to add to your daily routine.

5. Eat more fruits and veggies. It goes without saying that eating your fruits and veggies is good for your health. Add one extra serving of fruits and veggies to your day and begin living a healthier life.

6. Eat less saturated fat. Instead of ordering a burger or a steak at dinner, consider chicken or fish.

7. Eat less sugar. Sugar causes a rapid rise in blood sugar and a general feeling of well being. It also causes a rapid drop in blood sugar and a feeling of no energy. Then you eat more sugar and the cycle repeats itself. This roller coaster of sugar highs and lows wreaks havoc on your body. The solution, eat less sugar and if you do choose to have a sugary snack, eat it with a protein so your body’s metabolism remains more stable.

8. Fish oil. Fish oil and omega 3 fatty acids reduce inflammation in our bodies. It may help reduce cholesterol and may help protect your brain against degenerative diseases.

9. Go to the doctor. Are there regular tests you should be taking to test for hereditary illnesses or preventative measures that are appropriate to your age? Cancer screenings are the most common. Take the steps necessary to see your doctor this year.

10. Smile. Smiling reduces stress and puts you in a positive frame of mind. It’s scientifically proven that stress has a direct effect on how healthy a person is. Smile, you’ll be glad you did.

Print out this list and tape it somewhere you can see it everyday so you can start working on building up healthy habits.

Beginning in the 1990s, various studies suggested that green tea might lower the risk of various cancers, reduce heart disease, slow aging, lower cholesterol, boost the immune system, improve diabetes and arthritis, help people lose weight, and produce cold fusion.

Under the Food and Drug Administration’s policy of permitting “qualified health claims” for which there is some evidence—often based on industry-funded research—marketers can make all sorts of improbable boasts (see under pomegranate juice).

Even when it rejects such assertions, as it has for green tea and all cancers as well as heart disease, the FDA seldom does anything to stop them.

Meanwhile, “studies” indicating a pattern of weight loss—and the fact that Japanese people do seem pretty darn thin—allow green tea to be sold as a psychic cancellation stamp on essences we love and know to be bad for us in excess, such as fat and sugar.

The new Koots Green Tea chain in Seattle, whose proprietor is actually Japanese, sells Matcha Chocolat, a hot-cocoa drink made with white-chocolate chips and organic whipped cream.

This follows on the success of Starbucks’ Tazo Green Tea Frappuccino, which also uses matcha, green tea in pulverized form.

This is exceeded by the 640 calories in the “power” version of the Matcha Green Tea Blast from Jamba Juice, a franchise chain chasing Howard Schultz’s caffeinated footsteps.

One feels these drinks cleansing the arteries and imprisoning free radicals with every sip.

Of course, you can grow fat consuming too many life-affirming antioxidants, which creates another business opportunity.

Dr. Nicholas Perricone, a cosmetologist and diet-book author, made a mint after he told Oprah she would lose 10 pounds in six weeks if she switched from coffee to green tea. (This might actually happen to some people, but from cutting out the cream and sugar, not the coffee.)

Coke and Nestlé are in the midst of introducing Enviga, a drink that purports to have negative calories thanks to green tea extracts known as EGCGs and caffeine.

The Center for Science in the Public Interest has filed a lawsuit challenging the claim that drinking three cans of Enviga a day burns up to 106 calories, and Richard Blumenthal, the tireless attorney general of Connecticut is, as usual, investigating.
