It has been reported that Meridia caused 124 people to be hospitalized and 49 deaths, all from heart problems associated with taking this drug.

An article in the May 2004 issue of Archives of Internal Medicine reviewed Meridia’s effectiveness.

Obese people lost an average of only 10 pounds a year, and 55 percent of the weight lost was regained within 18 months of stopping the drug.

It did not appear to reduce illness or death caused by being overweight.
