Professor pushes for junk food price increase (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)

Here’s a novel idea, charge more for junk food and charge less for healthy food.

“…if we charge money for every calorie of soft
drink and fruit drink that was consumed, people would consume less of
it,” Professor Popkin said.

“If we subsidise fruit and vegetable production, people would consume more of it and we would have a healthier diet.”

-Adam

Governments in the Western world are being urged to increase the cost of junk food to force people to lose weight. Professor Barry Popkin from the University of North Carolina is addressing the International Association of Agricultural Economics conference on the Gold Coast.
