Minneapolis woman learned new habits to lose weight (Pioneer Press)

Nice article about a Minneapolis woman losing weight by changing her eating and exercise habits.?

Some of her advice:

“There were a lot of excuses holding me back: ‘This is how life has to be.’ ‘I can’t lose weight because I enjoy food too much.’

“I can still enjoy food but still be smaller. With exercise, if you
do it progressively, it can be something you can enjoy. It doesn’t have
to be ‘no pain, no gain.’

“Losing weight and maintaining it are both unique. When you lose
weight, you need a calorie deficit. When you’re maintaining, you can
eat a little more food.

“It’s a mental thing. You can’t go back to your old habits.”

Around Easter 2003, Melissa Hill of Minneapolis embarked on her first “serious” attempt at weight loss. At age 24 and 283 pounds, the 5-foot-9-inch Hill was beginning to feel the health effects of being heavy. Walking a block or two to the bus stop was getting harder, as was going up and down stairs and even getting into amusement park rides.
