Sugar and Sweeteners Can Pile on Pounds – Christian Broadcasting Network
Here’s more studies that show diet sodas may not be so good for us afterall.
“About one-third of all carbohydrate calories in the American diet come
from added sweeteners, and beverages account for about half of this
amount, the report said. And it adds that a single 12-ounce can of soda
provides the equivalent of 10 teaspoons of table sugar.? ? ? ? ?
In addition to obesity, sugared drinks have been associated with an
increased risk of diabetes. In a 2004 study from the Harvard School of
Public Health, a very strong causal relationship was found between Type
II diabetes in women and the consumption of just one sugared soft drink
per day.”
Here was an interesting quote:
“The study showed that people who drink diet soft drinks don’t lose weight; in fact, they gained it.”
They do offer alternatives though:
“Well, water is always a reliable standby. If you’re bored with plain old water, you can liven it up with some freshly squeezed fruit juice, such as pineapple, lemon, or strawberry. And if you miss carbonated beverages, try adding fresh fruit juice (not pre-sweetened) to seltzer water or club soda.”
