Three Important Reminders For Those Losing Weight

Failure to maintain the appropriate weight has been partly blamed for the numerous maladies that plague a lot of people. Weight management has become an integral element of the treatment of some conditions such as pelvic organ prolapse (POP) and stress urinary incontinences (SUI),  instead of using vaginal mesh devices. Complaints of severe complications against these devices have been mounting which has led to numerous vaginal mesh lawsuits. For more info on this controversy, you can check

For those who may want to  undergo a weight management program, be reminded that you must avoid doing things that may bring danger and potential harm. Three examples of these are the following:

Dieting to the point of starvation

In their desire to cut down excess weight in the quickest way possible, some women follow programs where calories are cut down to the extreme. Fasting to the point of starvation becomes their course of action. They sustain on liquids without taking any food for many days. While unbelievable results may be achieved, it comes with a high degree of risk.

This becomes very dangerous to the woman’s health since included in the weight loss is muscle mass which is very critical in the performance of one’s daily activities. The risk of diabetes and metabolic syndrome is enhanced since metabolism is greatly affected. Experts admonish those on a diet not to reduce calories below 1,200 per day. This practice may lead to medical complications since one is prevented from getting the nutrients needed to keep up with the daily activities. People using this program will ultimately regain the weight lost plus additional unwanted weight.

Using questionable supplements and over-the-counter pills

Taking advantage of the fact that their products do not undergo strict scrutiny from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), companies are flooding the market with supplements that are guaranteed to eliminate excess weight at no risks with their “all-natural” components. Although not exactly dangerous, these products based on reports are not effective and bring about potential harm.

The American Dietetic Association, through its spokeswoman, declared that these supplements may be harmful, ineffective and a waste of money. In most cases, these pills use caffeine and diuretics that only lead to dehydration and electrolyte imbalance. The loss of water in one’s body explains the reduction in weight which is only temporary and returns to normal once replenished.

Engaging in extreme exercises

Exercise alone has never been considered an effective way to reduce weight unless done to an excess which may only bring more disadvantages than benefits. Overdoing it will only result to damages and injuries to the body, hastens wear and tear, dehydration, and electrolyte imbalance. In short, it is putting punishment on the body.

Embarking on an exercise program should be done to complement other weight-loss regimen. It should be used to tone and firm up muscles, provide health benefits, and reduce the overall stress level. Studies have shown that stress releases hormones that increase appetite and fat storage.
